What I learned about Clubhouse after not having been on since Covid

Recently, I was invited to speak at Teleportation Hour on Clubhouse, a social audio app that was super popular during Covid. As someone who had not used the app in a while, I was curious to see what it was all about now. After my experience on there with Joseph Friedner and their community, I can say that I’ve learned a few things about Clubhouse that I’d like to share with you.

I had to download this again

First, I learned that each room on Clubhouse has its own behavior. Teleportation Hour is different than other rooms in that they solidly prepare for each session. They find really good speakers, write an abstract with questions, and have a sync call beforehand. In addition to that, they curate the room cautiously to make sure that it stays within the 1-hour to 1-hour 15-minute timeframe and that high-value content is delivered. This preparation ensures that the quality of the discussion is high and that the audience is engaged.

Another interesting feature of Teleportation Hour is that they reset every 15 minutes for people who are new to the discussion and missed the beginning. This way, newcomers can feel more included and know what is going on. This is a great way to keep the conversation flowing and to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

ain’t no party like a Clubhouse party

But why use Clubhouse in the first place? For me, I learned that it enables deeper connections to happen. Because it is essentially like having a phone call with someone, compared with just chatting over text as you would in the comments on a YouTube video, it allows for more meaningful conversations to take place. You can hear the tone of someone’s voice, their inflections, and their energy, which can make a big difference in how you interpret what they’re saying.

Overall — my experience speaking on Clubhouse was a positive one. I learned that the app has a lot of potential for creating deeper connections and meaningful conversations. While it may not be for everyone, I think it’s worth giving it a try if you’re looking for a new way to connect with others, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Teleportation Hour.

If you’re interested to see what was discussed, this was a good summary written by Joseph Fridner https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7089504067818778625?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
